What Is A Light Dimmer

A light dimmer is a device that is used to lower the brightness of a light. There are many different types of light dimmers, but they all work by reducing the amount of power that is sent to the light. This can be done by either reducing the amount of time that the light is on, or by reducing the amount of power that is sent to the light.

How They Became Popular

In the early days of electrification, lightbulbs were controlled by simply turning them on and off with a switch. This worked well enough for basic lighting needs, but as soon as people started using electric light for more than just simple illumination, the need for a more nuanced level of control became apparent. This is where light dimmers came in.

Light dimmers allow you to adjust the level of light output from a lightbulb, giving you much more control over the ambiance of a room. In the early days of electric lighting, this was a godsend for things like parties and other social gatherings where the right level of lighting could make all the difference.

Nowadays, light dimmers are a common fixture in most homes, and their popularity only looks to be growing. With the continued rise of energy-efficient LED lighting, dimmers are becoming an increasingly attractive option for people looking to save on their electricity bills.

Types of Light Dimmers

There are many different types of light dimmers on the market, from those that are manual to those that are electronic. The type of dimmer you choose will depend on your needs and preferences.

Manual light dimmers are the most common and they work by turning a knob or a dial to adjust the light level. These are often the cheapest option, but they can be more difficult to use than other types of dimmers.

Electronic light dimmers use a control panel to adjust the light level. These are often more expensive than manual dimmers, but they are also easier to use.

LED light dimmers are designed to work with LED lights. These are typically more expensive than other types of dimmers, but they offer the best performance.

NFC light dimmers are the latest type of dimmer on the market. These work by using NFC technology to adjust the light level. These are typically more expensive than other types of dimmers, but they offer the best performance.

How To Install Light Dimmers By Yourself

To install your own light dimmer, first, identify which wires in your light switch box correspond to the live (hot) wire, the neutral wire, and the ground wire. Most dimmer switches will require a live (hot) wire, a neutral wire, and a ground wire.

If you are unsure which wires correspond to which, you can consult a wiring diagram for your specific light switch or dimmer switch. Once you have identified which wires correspond to which, use wire strippers to remove about ½ inch of insulation from the end of each wire.

Next, twist the bare end of the live (hot) wire around the screw on the left side of the dimmer switch, then tighten the screw to secure the wire. Repeat this step with the bare end of the neutral wire around the screw on the right side of the dimmer switch. Finally, twist the bare end of the ground wire around the green screw on the dimmer switch.

At this point, you should have all three wires (live/hot, neutral, and ground) securely attached to your dimmer switch. The last step is to install the cover plate for the dimmer switch, and then screw it into place.
